PHOENIX – April 7, 2025 –  Moon Valley Nurseries , the nation's largest fully-integrated nursery, has appointed James Hanison as chief operations officer. Hanison now oversees operations of the company’s 19 farms and 48 retail nursery locations across Arizona, California, Nevada, Tennessee, Texas, Georgia and Florida. Hanison will be based at Moon Valley Nurseries' Scottsdale, Arizona corporate headquarters and report to CEO Brian Flood.“As Moon Valley Nurseries continues on its path of expansion and growth, we’re excited to welcome James Hanison to our executive leadership team,” said Brian Flood, CEO at Moon Valley Nurseries. “James brings more than 25 years of experience in retail leadership from some of the world’s most renowned organizations to the company and we look forward to seeing his innovative approach propel us forward.”Hanison's extensive career in retail spans renowned organizations, including Target, Walmart, and West Marine, and includes publicly traded and private-equity-owned businesses. James has led global teams throughout his career and held key leadership roles in retail store management, e-commerce, retail strategy, operations transformation, marketing, and human resources. His leadership has driven large-scale transformation and ensured organizations adapt to the ever-evolving retail landscape.

Bracale joined full-time in 1998 and quickly rose through the ranks, first becoming a store manager, then the Arizona regional manager and most recently chief operating officer. Bracale is one of the first 12 employees at the company, which has now grown to more than 2,200 employees nationally. "What an honor it’s been to grow up with the business and see it evolve and rapidly grow into what it is today," said Sal Bracale, president at Moon Valley Nurseries. "I wasn’t expecting to find a career in landscaping when I picked up a seasonal job at a Moon Valley Nurseries’ Christmas tree lot. Nearly 30 years later we’ve grown and nurtured this organization into the largest–and best–box tree grower and fully-integrated nursery, and I’m forever proud and grateful to have contributed to that success.” Bracale holds many certifications and licenses in the landscaping and contractor spaces, including the Arizona Certified Nursery Professional certification from the Arizona Nursery Association, a certification in Sustainable Landscape Management from the Arizona Landscape Contractors’ Association, and is a licensed landscape contractor in the states of Arizona and California.
